Description
Akura Medical is seeking a Sr. Finance Director/Controller to lead its financial operations as it prepares for its initial product launch in 2026. Akura Medical is a medical technology company dedicated to addressing venous thromboembolism (VTE) and is powered by proprietary AI-based imaging technology.
Akura is completing its Series C financing (October), which will fund the commercialization of its Katana Thrombectomy System. This role will play a major part of the company transformation, including the transition to audited AICPA-compliant financial statements, and the implementation of a commercial-ready ERP system. This is a full-time on-site position and will require reporting to our offices located in Los Gatos, CA.
Responsibilities, Skills & Hands-On Experience
  • Accounting Compliance & Reporting
    • Oversee and transition the company’s accounting processes to be fully AICPA compliant.
    • Lead the initiation and support of annual financial audits, working directly with external auditors.
    • Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end close processes.
    • Prepare all final financial reports including budget-to-actual variance analyses, and investor and Board of Director reporting packages.
    • Assure that accounting policies and company internal controls are IPO-Ready when required.
  • Budgeting, Forecasting and Financial Analysis
    • Lead the annual budgeting process and coordinate periodic reforecasts in partnership with department heads.
    • Develop and maintain financial models to support operational planning and strategic decision-making.
    • Analyze financial data and provide insights to senior leadership regarding trends and performance.
  • Systems & Process Improvement
    • Support the transition of currently outsourced (Shifamed) financial procedures to Akura’s internal operations when needed.
    • Assess current accounting systems and lead the implementation of financial-related modules of the company’s ERP system as needed. This includes supporting the implementation of systems that facilitate the company’s commercialization activities
    • Establish internal controls and best practices to support growth and scalability.
Education & Work Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA strongly preferred.
  • 15+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 5+ years in a leadership role.
  • Experience in a venture-backed environment, including product launch activities.
  • Prior experience in a production environment/cost accounting.
  • Solid understanding of GAAP and AICPA standards.
  • Budgeting and forecasting experience.
  • Experience using commercial ERP systems (implementation experience is a plus).
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Experience preparing for or participating in a company IPO or audit readiness is a plus.
  • Self-starter with the ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Our salary ranges are calculated by role, level, and location. Please note that your position within that range will be determined by your job-related knowledge, location, skills, experience, relevant education, and training/certifications. The base salary range for this full-time position is between $200,000 - $225,000 + equity + benefits.
