At Akash Systems, Inc. (San Francisco, CA), we design and make some of the world's most energy-efficient RF power amplifiers, and the CubeSats (small LEO orbital satellites) enabled by them. Our innovation is made possible by the breakthrough materials we use: Gallium Nitride (GaN)-on-Diamond wafers. In GaN-on-Diamond, the hottest parts of a transistor are brought to within tens of nanometers of diamond - the world's most thermally conductive material. The effect is a cooler state of operation - dramatically improving energy efficiency, and reducing a system's size, weight, and operating costs.
