Located between Union Station and Chinatown in D.C.’s East End, Bar Spero is the latest concept from Reverie chef Johnny Spero, at the heart, a lively seafood bar and grill. Embodying the dynamic energy of the District’s downtown culture, the space is designed for chance encounters and lively conversation.

We are looking for people who share our desire to develop genuine connections with our guests, making them feel welcome, relaxed, and at home. Behind the scenes, we put as much thought into food and beverage as we do into the service operations. We are looking for passionate people looking to take pride in their work, maintain exceptional standards, who are able to act as team players.

As a bartender at Bar Spero you are responsible for providing guests with the highest possible standard in service and are responsible for the complete sales and service of food, beverages & experience for guests at the bar; as well as preparing drinks for guests in the dining room. Bartenders must possess leadership skills, be personable with guests and be able to anticipate their needs- working with a warm, knowledgeable & noticeably appreciative demeanor. It is the responsibility of the bartender to execute consistently, following recipes and ensuring guests receive their beverages promptly. Our bartenders work as a team to facilitate all beverage preparation in tandem with a high level of guest care. For this reason, bartenders at Bar Spero must possess a natural drive to do well and work together.

Bar Spero believes in a ‘whole house’ mentality and we expect all departments (pastry, savory, dining room, and facilities) to support and motivate each other to achieve our goal of guest satisfaction. As a bartender, you will interact with all of these departments regularly and should be able to communicate effectively and respectfully with your co-workers & managers.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

• Must have 2 year + experience in a fine dining or high volume restaurant as a bartender
• Ability to learn detailed and extensive food, wine and bar menus
• Additional education, training, certificates or experience a huge plus
• Have an eye for detail and understanding of drink mixing tools and techniques
• Enjoy engaging with guests in a friendly manner to craft engaging experiences
• Make suggestions based on knowledge of guests’ expectations and wants
• Ensure tables are enjoying their meals and take action to correct any problems
• Must be able to stand for long periods of time and be comfortable with repetitive motions (such as walking, bending & standing)
• Must be able to take constructive criticisms and work well in a team dynamic
• Must meet Washington DC minimum age to serve alcoholic beverages
• Weekend availability is required
