What you’ll do:

Position Summary:

The Front of House (FOH) Shopkeep at Cookbook Market Larchmont is a key hospitality

position responsible for delivering warm, professional, and detail-oriented service in a

fast-paced market and café setting. In addition to retail and café duties, this role includes

providing full tableside service on weekends, requiring prior server experience. The Shopkeep

serves as the face of the market, creating a welcoming environment and ensuring guests feel

cared for from entry to exit.

The Shopkeep position at COOKBOOK MARKET will be responsible for the following:

  • Arrive and leave on time, and clock in/out accordingly
  • Dress appropriately every day for work following the Cookbook dress code stated in the employee handbook.
  • Follow break policies in effect at this location.
  • Providing a friendly and hospitable first impression to all guests. Warmly greet every guest that walks in the door and say goodbye to everyone that leaves. Acknowledging and learning names of regulars, our neighbors and friends of the market.
  • Answering the telephone courteously and promptly, and knowing how to guide guests to find the answer/person they need.
  • Communicating with kitchen staff: Relaying customer orders to the kitchen staff, who can then prepare the food and accommodate special requests
  • Able to thoughtfully describe all store items and use this knowledge to provide suggestions to guests.
  • Display deep understanding of all retail grocery items, produce and merchandise in the store.
  • Check out customers at registers and on handheld devices, ensuring that all items have been rung in properly and all items are packed for the customer.
  • Assist guests at the table, including providing water, menus, utensils, and responding to their needs throughout their visit.
  • Provide full tableside service on weekends, including taking orders, running food and drinks, checking in on the dining experience, and pre-bussing/resetting tables.
  • Utilize Toast handhelds to enter orders tableside and guide guests through the digital ordering process via QR codes.
  • Suggest additional items to enhance the guest’s experience.
  • Assist customers with opening the front door, or with bringing items to their car, when necessary.
  • Direct all delivery personnel to the correct drop location and/or connect them with the appropriate staff member.
  • Maintain a food log throughout the day to ensure that all foods/temperatures are properly logged.
  • Upkeeping and understanding high standards for food quality control to uphold Food Safety Standards
  • Ensure the bread, meat, pastry, grocery shelves and fridges are properly stocked and displayed clearly, including slacking, pricing, etc.
  • Mastery of meat slicer techniques and safety protocol to prepare sliced meats to order.
  • Daily check of deli area and product following procedures and using proper checklists
  • Use proper dating and labeling following procedures.
  • Good communication with managers on daily needs
  • Upkeeping Sanitation and Cleaning standards following procedures and using proper checklists
  • Respecting the facility - picking up trash, cleaning up after yourself, taking the initiative to clean and finish your side work, letting managers know if anything is in disrepair.
  • Sweeping and mopping floors, helping teammates in the FOH or BOH, being present and aware in order to assist with any spills or special requests.
  • Follow and complete a weekly deep cleaning schedule.
  • Working with a sense of urgency in a fast-paced environment and work in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Maintain a positive, team-oriented, respectful mentality.
  • Running food or drinks, assisting in pre-bussing tables, sweeping floors, helping teammates in the FOH or BOH, being present and aware in order to assist with any spills or special requests.
  • Have a deep understanding of coffee and know how to check all components of coffee drinks for quality, identify properly brewed coffee and espresso, dial in drip coffee and espresso, foam milk correctly, know all coffee specs, and maintain a clean, stocked station during service while efficiently making beverages.
  • Understand all the machines used during coffee service including the grinders, percolators and espresso machine and maintain these machines to spec.
  • Be able to describe in detail all café drinks, café menu, wine by the glass menu, pastry and prepared items in case
  • Other duties as assigned.

The noise level in this environment is usually moderate.
