About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Quality Assurance Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have 7+ years of experience in backend-focused quality assurance, with a strong focus on integration testing, system-level validation, and data quality across interconnected services.

This role is perfect for a QA professional who thrives on understanding how complex systems fit together, digs deep into the "why" behind the data, and isn't afraid to creatively explore beyond the happy path. You will work closely with developers, product managers, and data teams to test APIs, validate webhook-based flows, ensure data consistency across systems, and champion product quality from planning to post-release. This position supports the Finance pod, so a comfort with numbers and strong analytical thinking is a major plus.

Our application is actively developed, with new features constantly added and existing ones evolving based on valuable end-user feedback. As a Sr. QA Engineer, you will play a key role in making sure these changes are thoroughly tested, reliable, and delivered with high quality. Experience collaborating with offshore teams is a plus.

Key Responsibilities

  • API, Integration, and Contract Testing:
    • Create and execute integration test strategies for backend services and third-party APIs, validating how components interact across systems.
    • Simulate and validate webhook-driven flows, testing for successful delivery, error handling, retries, and payload correctness.
    • Use tools like Postman to explore, document, and validate backend APIs, ensuring they meet functional, performance, and edge-case requirements.
    • Support early involvement in design discussions to ensure testability and reliability of backend interactions.
  • Database Validation:
    • Write and execute direct SQL queries (PostgreSQL, MySQL, etc.) to validate application behavior, financial calculations, and data integrity.
    • Understand complex normalized schemas and trace data across multiple tables and relationships to ensure backend correctness.
    • Help identify and resolve data anomalies such as missing references, incorrect aggregations, or unexpected rounding behaviors.
  • Collaboration & Communication:
    • Partner with engineering, product, and data teams to fully understand business logic, technical architecture, and financial use cases.
    • Provide thoughtful, detailed bug reports with clear steps to reproduce and meaningful business context.
    • Participate in sprint ceremonies (planning, grooming, retrospectives) and serve as a quality advocate throughout the development cycle.
    • Ask probing questions, challenge assumptions, and promote a culture of continuous improvement in testing and delivery processes.
  • Quality Mindset & Domain Awareness:
    • Approach testing with a high attention to detail, proactively identifying edge cases, data anomalies, and system-level inconsistencies before they reach production.
    • Demonstrate a creative and curious mindset—not just validating requirements, but actively looking for what might break or be missed.
    • Translate business rules and financial logic into test scenarios, ensuring the system handles calculations, rounding, currency formats, and data integrity with precision.
    • Develop a strong understanding of finance-related workflows to better anticipate risk areas and ensure domain-appropriate validation.
    • Communicate clearly and constructively across product, engineering, and data teams—raising questions and concerns early, with a focus on cross-functional collaboration.
    • Take ownership of quality throughout the lifecycle: from requirement review to post-release validation, always striving to improve testing coverage and effectiveness.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in backend quality assurance with strong focus on integration testing, system behavior, and data validation.
  • Proficiency in API testing tools such as Postman or REST clients; able to design and execute exploratory and regression test plans.
  • Strong SQL skills; experience querying relational databases and validating data across interconnected tables.
  • Familiarity with webhook workflows, asynchronous systems, and contract testing concepts.
  • Strong analytical thinking and debugging skills, especially in complex data or finance-related workflows.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Experience working with remote or offshore teams is a plus.

Compensation

Compensation for this role varies based on experience, with an indicative range of $110K–$140K + equity. Final compensation will depend on the level at which the candidate is hired, as we are considering multiple levels for this role.

  • Unlimited vacation
  • Health Insurance (including an option completely covered by Fora HQ)
  • Dental & Vision Insurance
  • Wellhub Memberships
  • 401k plan with company match
  • Commuter Benefits
  • Supplemental Life Insurance
  • Stock Options

This role is based in New York City with a hybrid WFH & office schedule (Monday, Tuesday and Thursday are our FiDi in-office days, with flexibility for Wednesday and Friday at your preference).
