Job Description
Experian Software Solutions (ESS) is a fast-growing business line, which in FY23 generated c.$1 billion in annual revenue..
ESS is core to Experian’s strategic plans and a critical element of its growth ambitions now and in the future. There is strategic ambition to grow the ESS business to generate c.$2b in revenue annually – by 2028. This ambition is forecast to be realised through a combination of organic / selective inorganic, product line growth as well as productivity and structural growth opportunities.
ESS comprises three main product lines: Decisioning Software, Identity & Fraud, and Analytics. This business line competes globally and occupies a market leading position in our main regions across a multitude of industry verticals – notably in financial services, telecommunications, utilities and public sector. Competitors include FICO, CRIF, Equifax, TransUnion, IBM, PEGA, SAS, Provenir and many smaller, niche providers.
This is a visible and critical role, with high leadership exposure, and is critical to influence across central and regional team leaders. As such we are looking for an inspirational strategy leader who can support our ambitions and continue to evolve the team to drive additional growth across our product lines and markets.
Context & Focus
ESS has an ambition to become the “First, the Best, and the Only”. Portfolio Marketing aims to support the global ambition of ESS by leading three areas:
- Market Analysis
- Portfolio Marketing and Go to Market (GTM)
- Analyst Relations
Particularly, Market Analysis will support ESS by identifying our client needs, examining our competitor’s strengths, and driving where to play and how to win in the different markets with our different products. This will require assessments of our competitive landscape, identification of organic and inorganic opportunities, and identifying innovative approaches to meet our clients’ needs, all in close collaboration with stakeholders both in ESS and in other parts of the organization.
As a result, we require a strategy professional who can develop and recommend strategies to achieve the company’s goals and that is a team player that works in collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders.
Job Responsibilities:
- Performing research and analysis of our markets (e.g., including market sizing), client trends, regulatory developments, individual competitors, and competitive dynamics, developing a point of view on strategic implications and any strategic response or change to our strategy which may be required
- Developing sales analytics materials, such as dashboards or presentations, including win/ loss and pipeline analysis which combine data analysis and extensive interviews to sales executives
- Partnering & collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders including Portfolio Marketing & GTM and Analyst Relations teams, product line leaders, finance, marketing, subject matter experts and corporate & regional strategy counterparts
- Working collaboratively with the different business lines and regions to understand their strategic agenda, market opportunities & challenges and to lead & support specific business strategy projects
- Refreshing ESS’ 5-year strategic plan, working with key stakeholders across ESS and regional teams
- Managing the strategic use of M&A to accelerate growth and to open up new markets including: (i) refreshing our screening & search criteria (ii) assessing target areas and target companies, on a proactive & reactive basis and (iii) managing & coordinating internal engagement with ESS, regional teams,, and supporting deal execution and post-merger integration where appropriate
- Articulating strategy and strategic recommendations in a clear, compelling and concise fashion for Executive & Board level audiences
Qualifications
Candidate Profile – Skills, Attributes & Knowledge:
- Proven experience in strategy formulation, competitive market research & analysis and managing strategy projects / workstreams
- Ability to synthesise information into clear strategies (intellectual horsepower to assess operational issues and synthesize information at speed)
- Clear thinker and excellent communicator, both written and verbal, able to create internal and external awareness of the strategy and the vision of product lines, coupled with ability to roll up sleeves
- Familiarity with M&A strategy, evaluation techniques and deal lifecycle, particularly due diligence processes
- Global mindset, open to different cultures, people and aware of the different markets and industries across all different regions
- Excellent relationship building skills and natural collaborator, connector and networker
- Ability to effectively challenge views and build consensus
- Skilled in PowerPoint and Excel, preferably with experience in ThinkCell
- Some exposure to strategy frameworks & structured methods such as pyramid principle of communication and issue & hypothesis trees
- Self-motivated, organised, disciplined, and structured
- Able to work at pace
Candidate Profile – Industry & Domain Experience & Qualifications:
- 3 to 5 years+ business strategy experience focusing on target markets & strategic business opportunities, including 2-3 years+ relevant experience in a strategy consulting firm / professional services firm
- In-house strategy team experience desirable, industry experience most likely obtained in Financial Services or a Tech firm
- Interest in relevant technologies like Artificial Intelligence & ML, SaaS, and Cloud software
- MBA from a leading business school advantageous
- M&A experience desirable
