We are looking for a Director of Quantum Applications -- Sweden Site Manager to lead our business and technology development in utilizing IonQ’s quantum computers to create solutions for our business partners in the Nordics region and globally. As a Director of Quantum Applications -- Sweden Site Manager, you’ll be part of a cross-functional team whose mission is to lead IonQ on its journey to solve the world’s most complex problems using world’s best quantum computers built at IonQ. As a founding leader of the IonQ Sweden office, you will also play a key role in growing the site, establishing a culture and connecting with both the local innovation ecosystem as well as other IonQ sites and customers around the world.

As a seasoned R&D leader and a deep technical expert on a team of PhD application scientists co-located within the vibrant BioVentureHub in Gothenburg, you will drive the discovery of new algorithms and computational resource models, the development of core IP, and oversee the maturation of hybrid quantum solutions from quantum circuits to deployment to the cloud platform. You will work closely with product, marketing, sales, operations, and external customers/partners to brainstorm new ideas, define multi-year roadmaps, and represent IonQ at high-visibility technical conferences (often all in a single day)!


Responsibilities:

  • As a founding leader of the IonQ quantum application development center based in Gothenburg, Sweden, drive a culture of customer success and innovation across the site
  • Help develop, hire and grow IonQ’s Sweden/Nordics Applications team and business by establishing and managing customer engagements, and develop quantum solutions for practical real-world problems
  • Partner with IonQ’s clients to develop and execute strategies for establishing quantum solutions business in the region and across a wide range of industry verticals
  • Build, grow and manage a highly talented technical team in the Sweden/Nordics region dedicated to delivering hybrid quantum applications for partners and customers
  • Identify opportunities for developing and deploying quantum solution packages for a broad user base in the Sweden/Nordics region and beyond
  • Interface with other technical teams to enable co-design and co-development of powerful IonQ quantum computers that are optimized for customer use cases
  • Work closely with Product Management, Sales, and Marketing teams to expand our customer base by developing hybrid quantum products that will deliver commercial advantage
  • Create strong portfolio of intellectual property in quantum applications
  • Develop new business models and identify new business opportunities enabled by hybrid quantum solutions, including integrating quantum algorithms within larger, end-to-end customer workflows
  • Collaborate with other managers and consistently and effectively communicate across the organization and up the leadership chain. Represent the group at academic, industry and local events


You’d be a good fit with:

  • 15+ years of experience in technical R&D for solution development in algorithms and/or computational applications
  • 5+ years of experience leading consultative customer engagements
  • 5+ years of managing deeply technical teams to develop innovative solutions for customer problems, integrating R&D artifacts with larger workflows and bringing them to market
  • Proven track record of technical leadership and innovation, demonstrated through deployed solutions, commercial licenses, publications and/or patents
  • Experience in building, operating and growing business focused on providing solutions that solve customer needs

You’d be a great fit with:

  • Ph.D. in chemistry, computer science, engineering, physics or related field
  • Prior experience commercializing radically new technologies
  • Prior experience leading global collaborations
  • Experience or familiarity with quantum computing
  • Domain expertise in computational/quantum chemistry, biopharma, optimization


Location: This role is based onsite in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Compensation will vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Posted base salary figures are subject to change as new market data becomes available. Beyond base salary, total compensation includes a variable bonus and equity component and a range of benefit options found on our career site at ionq.co/jobs. IonQ's HQ is located in College Park, Maryland, a quick 15-minute metro from Washington DC. We are actively building out our recently opened manufacturing and production facility in Bothell, WA (near Seattle). Depending on the position, you may be required to be near one of our offices in College Park, Seattle, or Toronto.
