We are looking for a Staff Technical Program Manager to drive the development and execution of our quantum processors (QPU) through the entire project life-cycle. This position will play a crucial part in bringing groundbreaking technologies within the field of quantum computing.

We are looking for a proven TPM with leadership and expertise in semiconductor, photonics or quantum processor development. This visible and fast-paced role will involve working directly with other TPMs and various technical leads to drive and coordinate the lifecycle of our devices. You will also communicate across the company, including to C-suite stakeholders.

The position will require planning, executing, coordinating, and closing of various development projects and involve coordination between various internal technical workstreams, including design, layout, fabrication, packaging and test.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee QPU projects by prioritizing project goals and deliverables while effectively managing deliverables, resources, budget and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams of subject matter experts to develop and prioritize technical strategies for advancing QPU technologies. Within these discussions, track any program impacts while driving technical issues to conclusion.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration among team members, while regularly reporting program status to senior management.
  • Manage changes in project scope, identify potential bottlenecks, devise, and where necessary, implement contingency plans.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time in the US and Europe.


You’d be a good fit with:

  • Advanced degree in Physics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related technical fields.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience as a Technical Program Manager or cross-functional team leader in the Semiconductor or quantum trap field.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively lead cross-functional teams and communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities, with a keen eye for detail and an innovative mindset.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Passion for quantum computing and the desire to be at the forefront of groundbreaking technological advancements.

You’d be a great fit with:

  • In depth knowledge of semiconductor design and fabrication processes
  • Working knowledge of quantum computing concepts, principles, and technologies
  • Working knowledge of semiconductor packaging and testing flows

Location: This role can be based in College Park, MD (US) or in Oxford, England (UK).
Travel: Up to 20% in the US and Europe.

The approximate base salary range for this position is $126,887 - $166,127 (USD). The total compensation package includes base, bonus, and equity.

Compensation will vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Posted base salary figures are subject to change as new market data becomes available. Beyond base salary, total compensation includes a variable bonus and equity component and a range of benefit options found on our career site at ionq.co/jobs. IonQ's HQ is located in College Park, Maryland, just outside of Washington DC. We are actively building out our recently opened manufacturing and production facility in Bothell, WA (near Seattle). Depending on the position, you may be required to be near one of our offices in College Park, Seattle, Toronto, Canada, and Basel, Switzerland.
