We are looking for a Senior Staff Networking Solution Architect. As a Senior Networking Solution Architect, you’ll be part of a cross-functional team whose mission is to lead IonQ on its journey to build the world’s best quantum computers to solve the world’s most complex problems.
In this role, you will bridge the gap between complex mission requirements and secure, high-performance network infrastructure. You will design and implement the next generation of campus and edge networking that supports our groundbreaking quantum research and federal partnerships. This is a unique opportunity to apply Zero Trust principles and advanced automation to an environment where classical networking meets the frontier of quantum computing.
Responsibilities:
- Architect and Design: Develop secure, scalable campus, branch, wireless, and edge network architectures aligned to Zero Trust principles, ensuring resiliency and seamless operations for enterprise and federal environments.
- Security & Compliance: Implement NIST-aligned controls and CMMC Level 2 expectations, creating evidence-ready documentation and auditable change controls for regulated federal programs.
- Automation & DevOps: Drive network programmability using APIs, Python, and Git-based workflows to standardize configurations and enable CI/CD-like operationalization for network changes.
- Observability: Build and automate telemetry, logging, and metrics dashboards to refine security policies and reduce mean-time-to-restore (MTTR).
- Cross-Functional Leadership: Lead through influence by collaborating with Security, Cloud, IAM, and Compliance teams to resolve technical tradeoffs and document architectural decisions.
- Implementation & Migration: Oversee multi-site deployments (greenfield and brownfield), managing phased cutovers and migration planning to minimize impact on production environments.
- Mentorship & Quality: Raise the bar for engineering quality through high-level design (HLD) and low-level design (LLD) documentation, mentoring junior staff, and ensuring long-term solution operability.
You’d be a good fit with:
- 8+ years of experience in network architecture and engineering, with a focus on enterprise-scale campus and wireless deployments.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Zero Trust Expertise: Proven experience implementing Zero Trust Architectures where access is granted via dynamic policy and continuous evaluation rather than network location.
- Technical Mastery: Expert-level knowledge of TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, and deep hands-on experience with security patterns including mTLS/TLS, PKI, and identity-aware policies.
You’d be a great fit with:
- Multi-Vendor Proficiency: Hands-on experience integrating Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto Networks, and Fortinet platforms.
- Advanced Automation: Proficiency in Python and Git for version-controlled "Infrastructure as Code" and automated configuration validation (linting/policy checks).
- Federal Compliance: Specific experience navigating NIST SP 800-171 Rev. 2 and CMMC frameworks for federal solution boundaries.
- Troubleshooting: Expert-level triage skills in RF/WLAN performance, packet capture analysis, and root-cause analysis for complex segmentation issues.
- Domain Integration: Ability to extend campus designs into Data Center and WAN domains while preserving least-privilege principles.
- Analytical Rigor: A strong approach to decomposing ambiguous requirements into measurable outcomes like availability and security posture.
Location: Remote / Sweden
Travel: Up to 15%
