We value providing opportunities for professional growth, and hence, we typically refrain from offering at the upper limit of the salary range. This approach allows for future development within the role, ensuring that compensation can be adjusted to reflect an individual's advancing skills and contributions to the team while maintaining internal fairness.

LeanData helps the world’s fastest-growing companies automate, simplify, and accelerate revenue.

As the Director of Engineering, Platform & Applications, you will be a critical leader in scaling our R&D organization, reporting directly to the SVP of Engineering. This is a high-growth leadership role. You will initially own our Core Infrastructure, SRE, and CI/CD teams, tasked with building a rock-solid foundation of reliability, scalability, and developer productivity. As you build this foundation, your scope will expand to include several of our core application engineering teams.

You will mentor new managers, as well as develop senior ICs to meet their potential. You'll be the key partner in shaping the systems that enable our product teams to move fast and our customers to scale with confidence.

At LeanData, we value Decisiveness, Simplicity, and the mindset that Job's Not Finished. We move fast, prioritize clarity, and are always striving for excellence. If this resonates with you, we'd love to hear from you.

Please note: This is a hybrid role based in our Santa Clara, CA office, with an in-office schedule of three days per week – Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

What You’ll Do:

Platform & Infrastructure Leadership

  • Define and execute a forward-looking strategy for our core platform, focusing on our AWS infrastructure, SRE, observability (New Relic, CloudWatch), and CI/CD pipeline.

  • Drive operational excellence and obsessive reliability for all services. You will establish, track, and be accountable for key SLOs/SLIs and mature our incident response process.

  • Build and champion an internal developer platform that measurably boosts developer productivity, streamlines our build/test/deploy cycles, and provides a world-class experience for all engineers.

Application & Product Delivery

  • Grow your scope to lead, mentor, and scale multiple application engineering teams, taking full ownership of their roadmaps, execution, and quality.

  • Drive the technical delivery of key enterprise-grade B2B SaaS features, such as permissions, public APIs, core integrations, and reporting.

  • Partner closely with Product Management and Design to ensure your teams are building the right solutions, balancing technical debt, and delivering high business impact.

Organizational & Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of ~10 engineers, with a plan to scale beyond that.

  • Recruit and develop our next set of leaders, including both homegrown managers and senior/staff-level individual contributors.

  • Act as a key member of the engineering leadership team, partnering with the SVP and peer leaders to refine processes, set strategy, and scale the entire R&D organization.

What You Have:

  • 6+ years of engineering leadership experience, with a clear progression of managing platform/infrastructure teams (and ideally) product/application teams.

  • Deep technical expertise in modern cloud-native operations, specifically AWS, along with SRE principles (SLOs/SLIs, incident management), observability, and CI/CD.

  • Proven track record of building highly engaged and high-performing engineering teams, with a strong pull for talent and experience coaching engineers at scale.

  • Experience hiring and growing leaders (both managers and senior ICs) on your team.

  • Strong product sense and customer empathy, with a track record of partnering with product management to deliver complex, customer-facing application roadmaps.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a track record of partnering with product, design, and other engineering leaders.
