Job Description

You will be working with multiple development teams to ensure that features are delivered in a timely and reliable manner to our customers all over the world.

You will bring even more talent to our operations team in areas like automation and reliability, using the platform and tools on which Zendesk is built, that currently includes Kubernetes, Amazon Web Services, Elasticsearch and many other fun and exciting technologies. We expect you to have good knowledge of Linux systems and how they work; developer skills in a few scripting languages is also a really good thing.

What you’ll be doing

  • Ship code to production and improve the experience of millions of Zendesk users.

  • Use an outstanding modern technology stack: AWS, Kubernetes, Istio, Elasticsearch, Terraform, Golang, etc

  • Work collaboratively with a niche team of expert engineers.

  • Use DevOps and SRE reliability practices: we build it, we run it!

What you bring to the role

Basic Qualifications:

  • Consistent track record (more than two years) as a production/operations/SRE engineer working on high-traffic, customer-facing distributed systems, or in a similar engineering role.

  • Deep understanding of network protocols such as DNS, HTTP, TLS/SSL and load balancing.

  • Experience in support of distributed systems, with Linux internals and administration knowledge.

  • Knowledge of caching solutions, CDN (Cloudflare, Akamai, CloudFront, Fastly, etc.)

  • 2+ years using Python/Golang or a similar programming language to automate operational tasks, crafting operational reports, reducing team toil etc

  • Interpersonal skills: you practice active listening

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with container-based architectures: Docker, Kubernetes.

  • Have a passion for identifying problems and fixing them. You run towards the fires!

  • Have previous success working remotely. You are effective when working autonomously and collaborating asynchronously.

  • A mature and pragmatic approach when choosing technologies.

  • Strong writing skills. You understand the need to document first in a remote, async work environment.

  • Experience, or willingness to learn, writing code in Golang.

Tech Stack

  • AWS, Elasticsearch, NGINX, Cloudflare

  • IaC: CloudFormation, Terraform

  • K8s, Docker

  • Golang, Ruby, Python

  • Spinnaker, Github, Datadog

Where We Work:
