Our Team

The Genomic Medicine Unit (GMU) operates with the mission to develop robust, scalable, cost effective, and innovative cell, viral vector, and non-viral manufacturing processes and platforms. The BioProcess Analytics group is responsible of developing and executing analytical methods to support our process development and manufacturing operation teams for viral and non-viral gene therapy manufacturing platforms.


The BioProcess Analytics group located in Waltham, MA is seeking a highly motivated Senior Research Associate to join our team of talented individuals. The successful candidate must have a basic understanding of analytical methods and technologies, with scientific knowledge in cell and gene therapy analytics preferred. The candidate must be highly motivated, well organized, able to execute studies independently, collaborative, and able to communicate effectively with a cross-functional team.

Main responsibilities

  • Contribute to routine assay support as needed following established protocols

  • Support and execute internal and external assay transfer consistent with established protocols

  • Maintain compliance with company documentation and data recording

  • Author method protocols, operating procedures, and technical reports

  • Troubleshoot existing method protocols and provide recommendations for improvements

  • Support process development and manufacturing teams in establishing analytical support needs for study plans, process monitoring, control and investigations.

  • Work independently on approved development plans and perform deep dives on data analysis

  • Prepare presentations for functional group meetings that clearly explain study plan results and conclusions

  • Perform method safety risk assessments and work with HSE to establish suitable safety controls

Basic Qualifications

  • Master degree in bioengineering or chemical engineering with 0 to 2 years of relevant experience or Bachelor degree in bioengineering or chemical engineering with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience

  • Demonstrated experience in performing or developing different separation technology platforms, such as HPLC, UPLC, and capillary electrophoresis (CE).

  • Experience with automation technologies and high throughput analytical assays

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills

  • Able to work independently and function within a collaborative/team-oriented environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with automated analytical technology platforms for high throughput testing is preferred

  • Experience in analytics to the testing of viral vectors or cell therapy products

  • Experience in analytical method transfer process

  • Experience using QbD principles and tools e.g. DOE to develop analytical methods.
