The Senior Corporate Counsel for US Litigation & Investigations will be responsible for managing litigation and claims involving US-based Sanofi entities in a variety of practice areas, working independently, as well as with outside counsel and colleagues in the US Litigation & Investigations group. The position requires effective and efficient management of litigation, with an emphasis on favorable results while managing costs. The Senior Corporate Counsel’s primary function will be to manage Sanofi’s Talc/Asbestos docket of cases. This Senior Corporate Counsel will also need to provide business operational and bankruptcy advice to the corporate entity that holds the Talc/Asbestos liabilities.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Support of a diverse caseload, including development of action plans and communication of issues, status, case developments and litigation risks. Caseload will include primarily Talc/Asbestos (see bullet below) as well as some product liability and general commercial litigation, environmental, bankruptcy and providing assistance to other in-house-counsel on other matters, as needed.

  • The Senior Corporate Counsel’s primary function will be to manage Sanofi’s Talc/Asbestos docket of cases. This position will also need to provide business operational and bankruptcy advice to the corporate entity that holds the Talc/Asbestos liabilities.

  • Supervise the collection and production of documents, preserving all privileges.

  • Effectively manage outside counsel spend.

  • Analyze complex situations, develop and communicate strategies and carry them out.

  • Advise senior Legal management of developments and risk areas.

  • Resolve disputes with other companies or individuals through negotiation or mediation with or without the involvement of outside counsel.

About You:

  • Excellent academic credentials, including a BA/BS and Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school.

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of legal experience.

  • Licensed to practice law in a US state, and either in good standing in New Jersey, OR Massachusetts or able to obtain a NJ OR MA limited license for in-house counsel.

  • Proficiency with Word, Powerpoint and other corporate standard software - required.

  • Experience for a pharma/biotech company, FDA or other relevant governmental agency, or for a law firm working on healthcare-related matters.

  • Team player with a commitment to developing strong collaborative relationships with legal colleagues, clients and cross-functional teams

  • Demonstrated ability to understand legal principles and compliance, as well as business requirements

  • Ability to handle multiple responsibilities and priorities simultaneously and still meet high quality and timeliness standards under pressure, with a sense of urgency
