In this role, you'll join the Manufacturing Systems & Automation department at our Swiftwater site, working directly with the Morpheus project team to adapt and modernize existing production lines for the introduction of a new product. This role will involve substantial upgrades to automation systems and the reconfiguration of manufacturing processes, ensuring seamless integration of advanced technologies to optimize production, enhance flexibility, and maintain strict regulatory compliance. Main responsibilities:

The Automation Project Leader will oversee automation and manufacturing systems within the Morpheus program. Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and Implement Strategy: Shape and execute a comprehensive Manufacturing Systems and Automation strategy specific to the Morpheus project. This includes systems architecture, control systems, industrial networks, IT/OT integration and convergence, digital interfaces, OT cybersecurity, FAT/SAT, and CQV planning.

  • Project Planning and Management: Develop detailed project plans covering schedules, resource allocation, milestones, and deliverables for the automation and manufacturing systems scope.

  • Control System Design: Lead the design and development of control systems tailored to manufacturing processes (PLC, SCADA, DCS, BMS, EMS), ensuring accurate and compliant installation, from design through performance qualification.

  • System Integration: Ensure seamless integration of automation systems with digital applications to support production, quality control, and data management.

  • Deliverable Accountability: Oversee the entire scope of manufacturing and automation project deliverables, ensuring compliance with GMP and regulatory standards through all project stages (IQ, OQ, PQ), including specification development, system design, software development, test protocols, and system validation.

  • Vendor Coordination: Collaborate with procurement and project teams to select vendors for manufacturing systems and automation, ensuring alignment with project quality and regulatory standards.

  • Risk and Compliance Management: Identify and proactively manage risks, ensuring compliance with GMP to minimize disruptions to project timelines and costs.

  • Training and Support: Develop and deliver specialized training materials for staff to ensure proper operation and maintenance of automated systems and provide ongoing support post-implementation.

  • KPI Reviews and Stakeholder Engagement: Conduct comprehensive reviews of automation progress, ensure alignment with project objectives, and engage with vendors and stakeholders to verify technical specifications and business needs.

About you

Experience:

  • Automation and Engineering: 10 to 15 years of direct experience in automation design engineering and project management within biopharma or related industries.

  • Project Implementation: Extensive background in construction, installation, equipment start-up, qualification, and validation of automated systems.

  • Process Control Systems: Strong expertise with DCS (Emerson DeltaV), SCADA, PLCs, and related automation technologies in a manufacturing context.

Soft and Technical Skills:

  • Leadership & Team Collaboration: Proven leadership and ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

  • Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities and expertise in designing robust system integration architectures.

  • Communication: Effective communication skills for engaging diverse stakeholders across projects.

Education:

  • Master’s or bachelor's degree in engineering, Automation, Computer Science, Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related field in the biopharma sector.

Languages:

  • English: Proficiency in both written and spoken English.
