Main Responsibilities:

The US Medical Director- New Products will provide medical and scientific guidance for the entire product portfolio, disease landscape, and vaccine ecosystem. This position will support disease state awareness, communication, and strategic direction in collaboration with Public Affairs. This role will also work with Franchise Medical Strategy Planners to coordinate congress planning and integrated evidence generation planning (iEGP) for the portfolio.

Strategy:

  • Identify and implement strategies for above-brand strategic imperatives, vaccine confidence/ hesitancy, vaccine coverage rates, maternal immunization, health equity, and antimicrobial resistance.

  • Collaborate with Public Affairs, Portfolio Brand Teams, and other cross-functional stakeholders in the development of materials and resources aimed at addressing vaccine confidence/ hesitancy, vaccine coverage rates, maternal immunization, health equity, and antimicrobial resistance, as delegated by the NA Portfolio, New Products, & Innovation Lead

Internal Collaboration/Communication:

  • Contribute to the development of Country Medical Plans (CMP) in collaboration with Medical Advisors, and other team members.

  • Provide Medical contributions on cross-functional committees including New Products Steering Committee and New Target Community

  • Act as country representative in Integrated Evidence Generation Planning (iEGP) process for identified new pipeline products.

  • Contribute to Medical input into assessment of external partnerships or product acquisitions that fall within the Vaccines portfolio but not within any of the other franchises.

External Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Identify, establish, build, grow, and maintain strategic relationships with senior experts, key opinion leaders (KOLs), professional societies, immunization advisory bodies, patient advocacy groups, decision makers and other external stakeholders, acting as SME and fostering scientific engagement to strengthen their understanding of our products and to collaborate on high-priority global studies and scientific initiatives.

  • Coordinate Medical Congress planning and engagement for portfolio in collaboration with franchise Medical Strategy Planners, cross-functionally and across global business units, including the identification of new external events/engagement opportunities for implementation of franchise or above brand strategies Advisors to ensure an impactful presence at key events.

  • Evaluate Medical educational grant requests stringently in accordance with internal operating procedures and aligned to Country Medical Plan (CMP)

  • Lead external advisory boards organized to support the medical strategic objectives and/or medical plan.

  • Represent the company at scientific conferences, congresses, and other industry events, and foster partnerships with external organizations to advance scientific knowledge and drive innovation.

Data Generation:

  • Partner with R&D and Clinical Development teams to write, review, edit, and approve key regulatory documents.

  • Work with R&D and Clinical Development teams to provide medical input to the design and support the execution of company-sponsored clinical trials (i.e., Ph 4 post-marketing and observational studies) for new products that may join franchise portfolio in accordance with integrated evidence generation plans (iEGP)

Scientific Content

  • Contribute to the development of scientific materials, such as slide decks, publications, and training resources for internal and external use.

  • Stay current on scientific and clinical developments in relevant therapeutic areas to effectively communicate the latest research findings.

Medical Operations :

  • Stay informed about regulatory guidelines, policy developments, and public health initiatives related to vaccines, ensuring alignment of communication strategies with industry standards and best practices.

About you

Requirements:

Education/Experience/Certification

Basic Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in scientific or healthcare-related field (vaccinology, immunology, microbiology and/or infectious disease)

  • 5+ years in Medical Affairs within the pharmaceutical / biotechnology industry

  • Relevant clinical experience or track record of peer reviewed publications in the US

  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time.

  • Knowledge of US health care system, communicable disease control, public health, and immunization practices

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in an external stakeholder facing role (i.e., governmental collaboration)

  • Recognized by other vaccine experts as being expert in vaccinology or a related discipline.

  • Infectious diseases and/or vaccine experience either from academia/research and/or preferably from the pharma industry with relevant customer knowledge

  • Ability to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously; plan, prioritize and implement actions using a self-dependent and structured working style.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, influencing and networking skills with an ability to work as part of a cross-functional team.

  • Ability to understand and effectively communicate vaccine clinical studies, both interventional and observational

  • Ability to analyze information and emerging trends, including social, policy and access-related information, and incorporate them into communication and Country Medical Plans
