The Data Translator acts as a vital bridge between business stakeholders and technical teams, playing a critical role in ensuring data-driven initiatives are aligned with business goals. This role involves a deep understanding of business needs and translating them into clear, concise, and comprehensive data specifications. The Data Translator will be responsible for creating, maintaining, and evolving data specification documents that serve as a blueprint for data-related projects, ensuring effective communication and collaboration across the organization.
Main responsibilities
Gathering and Documentation:
- Carry out analysis of the improvement idea, identify opportunities for related data for ingestion purposes
- Create technical specification documents for Source to Pay related items, mainly for KPI, metrics and data consumption purposes that will serve as basis technical documentation for Data Engineers
- Act as single point of contact with Business in order to collect further ideas, reconcile with the already existing ones, analyze and iterate Data and AI related business requirements and convert them into technical definitions for Data Engineers
- Conduct thorough interviews, workshops, and other elicitation techniques to gather and document data requirements from business stakeholders across various departments and functions
- Create and maintain comprehensive data specification documents using appropriate tools and templates, ensuring they are easily understood by both business and technical audiences
- Create, or help the process owner to create, user acceptance test (UAT) documents, identifying all the process scenarios and exceptions and their expected outcomes
- Act as a central point of knowledge and control for business processes, Developers, Process Experts, and the Process Owners to answer any queries that arise during the development and testing of data ingestion and visualization
- Proactively identify and clarify ambiguous or incomplete requirements to ensure a solid foundation for data specifications
- Maintain a repository of documented requirements, ensuring traceability and version control
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with data engineers, data architects, database administrators, and other technical team members to ensure that data specifications are accurately implemented and validated
- Act as a liaison between business stakeholders and technical teams, facilitating communication and resolving any misunderstandings or discrepancies
- Present data specifications to both technical and non-technical audiences, tailoring the communication style to the specific audience
Data Governance and Quality:
- Active participation in gathering and documenting the Business Data Quality rule specification.
- Promote a data-driven culture within the organization, advocating for the importance of data quality and consistency
About you
- 5+ years of experience in data and business analysis, requirements engineering, or a similar role involving data-related activities
- Solid understanding of SAP is a must, knowledge of Purchasing and Accounts Payable tables is a must, familiarity with Coupa, Concur is an advantage
- Understanding data field connections and impact
- Experience in project management
- Solid understanding in working in agile methodology (Jira, Confluence)
- Solid experience in integrating complex, cross-corporate processes and information strategies, including technology planning and execution and policy development/ maintenance
- Broad experience in multiple competency areas of data and analytics delivery; examples data warehousing, business intelligence (BI), data governance, data architecture, data modeling, data integration, data classification, data strategy, data quality management, data security, and privacy, MDM, data standards and enterprise architecture frameworks
- Strong level of Interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to communicate and present at different levels of the organization
- Self-driven, self-motivated personality
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills to convey complex data concepts
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively in a team environment
