Job Title: Principal Scientist, Functional Genomics
Location: Cambridge, MA
About the Job
Are you ready to shape the future of medicine? The race is on to speed up drug discovery and development to find answers for patients and their families. Your skills could be critical in helping our teams accelerate progress.
We are seeking a highly motivated and creative scientist to join the Functional Genomics cluster within the Target, Disease, and Systems Biology function in Sanofi Research. They will drive the implementation and application of emerging functional genomics approaches such as Perturb-seq that couple large-scale perturbation of targets with deep cellular characterization in order to elucidate disease mechanisms and discover novel targets across immunology, ophthalmology, neurology, oncology, and rare disease. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with computational colleagues to advance a ‘lab-in-a-loop’ approach integrating cutting-edge AI with advanced functional genomics. This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of functional genomics, AI, and disease biology to advance therapeutic target discovery.
We are an innovative global healthcare company with one purpose: to chase the miracles of science to improve people’s lives. We’re also a company where you can flourish and grow your career, with countless opportunities to explore, make connections with people, and stretch the limits of what you thought was possible. Ready to get started?
Main Responsibilities:
Design and execute high-throughput, multi-modal functional genomics experiments such as Perturb-seq, including cell culture and genetic perturbation.
Innovate in functional genomics technology by refining experimental methodologies to systematically explore gene function in disease contexts.
Collaborate closely with therapeutic area and computational biology experts to advance therapeutic discovery and the application of AI to functional genomics in a ‘lab-in-a-loop’.
Communicate your work through scientific publications, patent and regulatory filings, and presentations at internal and external meetings.
Support the personal and technical development of junior staff members.
About You
Ph.D. in genomics, molecular biology, cell biology, systems biology, or related field
5 years post-doctoral training and/or equivalent industry experience.
Experience applying cutting-edge functional genomics tools to target or drug discovery, especially in immunology, ophthalmology, or neurology, is key.
Hands-on experience in disease modeling in primary cells, iPSC-derived cells, and/or organoids would be highly valued.
Experience in high-throughput assay development, screening platforms and robotics, flow cytometry, imaging, single cell or spatial genomics, and/or computational data analysis would also be valued.
Excellent communication, organizational, and team skills with a track record of success working collaboratively across disciplines.
Why Choose Us?
Bring the miracles of science to life alongside a supportive, future-focused team.
Discover endless opportunities to grow your talent and drive your career, whether it’s through a promotion or lateral move, at home or internationally.
Enjoy a thoughtful, well-crafted rewards package that recognizes your contribution and amplifies your impact.
