Job title: Medical Program Manager

A Medical Program Manager at Sanofi is responsible for coordinating and overseeing medical programs related to specific therapeutic areas or product lifecycles. This role combines aspects of medical expertise with program management skills. Reporting to [Therapeutic Area] Medical Head and supports Medical team members (e.g., Medical Manager, MSL) to ensure the execution of key deliverables, conducts timely analyses, and provides status updates, utilizing clear and consistent communication. This role leads the teams to improve operations effectiveness and to execute key projects.

Program management

Overseeing and managing the timely execution of contracts and financial payments for scientific communication activities:

  • Medical-initiated advisory board meetings

  • Medical educational programs

  • Manage Company-Sponsored Studies (CSSs) and External-Sponsored Research (ESRs) through the approval and contract negotiation stages

  • Track CSS and ESR progression for maintaining ongoing metrics in Power BI and reports on a regular basis

  • Other cross functional initiatives led by medical team

  • Act as the primary point of contact with Medical Hub, ensuring smooth program execution through proactive risk management

Medical Insight Analysis

  • Support adoption of the generative AI-enabled MedIS (Medical Insights into Strategy) empowering informed strategic decision-making

  • Support MSL managers to ensure compliant entries by MSLs within OneCRM system

Medical Omnichannel activities

  • Lead development of medical contents with medical product team, and related meetings by proactively identifying agenda items, assimilating apricate meeting content, and facilitating alignment

  • Develop and track KPIs and report progress of medical communication activities

  • Develop and execute a new scheme to streamline the efficiency of medical communication with digital technology

  • Liaise with global medical operations and other related functions to ensure product-team alignment and timely execution

  • Serve as a contact for global and local affiliates regarding meeting content development for the product

Context of the job/major challenges

  • Able to operate independently (with minimal supervision) and navigate complex regulatory environments in person and via digital channels from remote (non-office based) environment

  • Possible substantial travel: nationally and internationally

  • Respect PSEA and ensure regulatory boundaries re non-promotional activities are respected vis-à-vis commercial partners

Scope of Role / Outputs

  • Accountability for JAPAN level with reporting mainly to Medical Affairs

  • Accountability on JAPAN level with reporting mainly to Medical Affairs of the individual country, but cross-geographical communication and best-practice-sharing is encouraged

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Advanced degree in a medical or scientific field (MD, PhD, MSc, MPH, or equivalent)

  • 3+ years of related industry experience required

  • Project management certification (e.g., PMP) preferred

  • Prior experience developing digital materials (e.g., educational movies) preferred

  • Prior experience conducting vendor management preferred

  • Prior experience conducting strategic planning activities, leading cross-functional teams at different levels, as well as R&D environment and pharmaceutical commercialization and regulatory processes are highly preferred

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE

  • Excellent interpersonal skills/highly collaborative; strong verbal and written communication skills in Japanese.

  • Strong facilitative leadership skills: ability to drive consensus across diverse functional groups

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Strong financial and operational skills: project/timeline management

  • Advanced knowledge of digital technology and tools

  • Sound scientific/technical and business acumen

  • Strong vendor management and budgeting skills
