The Global R&D Strategy and Portfolio Management team’s overarching objective is to equip Sanofi’s leaders with robust, objective and externally focused insights and recommendations they need to make better informed R&D strategy, and portfolio and project investment decisions to ensure pipeline sustainability.
We achieve this by (1) delivering a comprehensive R&D strategy positioning the organization to embrace future opportunities and challenges, driving sustained success (2) ensuring a sustainable portfolio strategy, robust valuation and prioritization of the R&D portfolio and optimization of resources, high quality pipeline reporting, benchmarking, and scientific competitive intelligence (3) ensuring high quality investment governance incorporating decision quality and thoughtful risk taking principles.
As part of the R&D Portfolio Strategy and Management team, the Competitive Intelligence group works with key stakeholders across the organization (R&D and GBUs) to deliver robust external competitive intelligence insights and ensure data-driven decision-making.
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced IP Competitive Intelligence Analyst to join our offshore hub in India. In this role, you will leverage patent data as a strategic source of competitive and technological intelligence. You will analyze innovation trends, competitor R&D directions, and emerging technologies to support early- and mid-stage pipeline decisions, strategic R&D and innovation decisions. This role focuses on identifying strategic insights from patent activity to inform R&D and business strategy. Main responsibilities
Use patent data and other scientific sources to provide a comprehensive and insightful view of the competitive innovation landscape and competition to Sanofi programs.
Collaborate with CI Senior Analyst, CI Leaders and Portfolio Strategy teams to interpret the strategic implications of competitors’ IP activity and communicate key insights to R&D stakeholders.
Deliver high-impact CI deliverables such as patent landscapes, innovation trend analyses, technology benchmarking, and competitor watchlists.
Monitor key competitors’ patenting activity to identify shifts in R&D focus, emerging technologies, technology trends.
Support Global Project Teams by providing timely and relevant patent-based intelligence aligned with therapeutic or technological priorities.
Work closely with Scientific CI, Portfolio Management to ensure consistency and integration of insights.
Contribute to the evaluation and implementation of digital and AI tools for patent analytics and competitive monitoring.
About you
Experience:
5+ years of experience in pharmaceuticals/healthcare industry, specifically within innovative pharma in Competitive Intelligence, technology scouting, or patent analytics within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry or a CI agency in conducting analysis and surveillance of R&D assets (R&D pipelines, technology platforms, or innovation trends) using patent data.
Knowledge of therapeutic areas such as Cardiovascular, Metabolism, or Immunology is a plus.
Experience working on novel therapeutic classes (e.g. highly engineered biologics) desirable.
Soft Skills:
Good analytical and synthesis skills; ability to extract strategic meaning from complex data
Excellent collaboration and communication skills across global, cross-functional teams.
Technical Skills:
Experience in using patent databases and analytics tools (e.g., Orbit, PatSnap, Derwent, Questel).
Knowledge in IP analytics or technology intelligence is a plus.
Understanding of drug development processes and innovation cycles.
Experience with data visualization and reporting tools (e.g., PowerPoint, Excel, Tableau).
Education:
Master's degree in Life Sciences, Engineering, or related field (M Pharma, PharmD, or equivalent).
Languages:
Fluent in English (all deliverables and stakeholder interactions are conducted in English).
