You will ensure the seamless creation and operation of the database platforms required by Sanofi's advanced data intensive initiatives for the betterment of our global patients and customers. A valued influencer and leader who contributes to making key datasets available to data scientists, analysts, and consumers throughout the enterprise to meet vital business use needs. A keen eye for improvement opportunities while continuing to fully comply with all data quality, security, and governance standards.

Main responsibilities:

Technical Strategy & Database Architecture

• Platform Leadership: Lead architecture, technical design, administration, security and evolution of database services, remaining up to date on company standards, industry practices and emerging technologies.
• Optimized Module Design: Design and develop optimized modules meeting reliability, reusability, latency and performance requirements, while adapting those modules to optimize running costs.
• Database Engineering Expertise: Provide highly-skilled development, industrialization and support of database platforms within a regulated environment, with strong experience in deployment of cloud databases, hosting platforms, storage and migration services such as AWS SCT and DMS, and strong experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, Microsoft SQL, and Oracle including Engineered systems.
• Team Technical Support: Support Data module engineers for designing optimized data models and database platform and services.

Automation & Engineering Leadership

• Automation & Tooling: Drive strong experience in automation tools and methodologies specifically using GitLab, GitHub Actions, Terraform, and Ansible, with experience in programming languages such as Python, JSON, YAML, and Shell Scripting.
• Backup & Monitoring: Leverage experience with backup systems like Netbackup and CommVault and apply good knowledge of ServiceNow and monitoring tools such as Splunk and BPPM to ensure operational visibility and reliability.
• Compliance & Regulatory Adherence: Enforce compliance requirements of the solution with regards to GxP regulation, ensuring all database platforms and services meet applicable regulatory standards.
• Operational Support: Ensure Level 3 support of the modules in operation, working in a transverse manner with Cloud and Data architects, Product Owners, Scrum Masters, Development teams and External Partners.

Team Management & Stakeholder Partnership

• Team Leadership: Lead and manage a team of Data Engineering Experts, articulating team direction and fostering a collaborative, high-performing environment.
• Business Partnership: Work with business teams to understand requirements and translate them into technical needs, supporting operations with the appropriate mindset oriented toward Operational Excellence.
• People Development: Provide continuous support to help team members throughout their personal and professional development, including mentoring and technology evangelism and advocacy.

About you

• Experience: 10-15 years of managing a Data Engineering team, working with a variety of cross-functional teams, Good understanding of agile/scrum development processes and concepts, working in the life sciences/pharmaceutical industry is a plus, Working within compliance (e.g.: quality, regulatory – data privacy, GxP, SOX) and cybersecurity requirements is a plus.
• Soft skills: Able to work in a fast-paced, constantly evolving environment and manage multiple priorities, Pragmatic and capable of solving complex issues, Service-oriented, flexible team player, Attention to detail and technical intuition, Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills for executive level communication and collaboration, Excellent communication skills to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders and a proven track record of partnering with application teams.
• Technical skills:
  • Cloud: Experience with AWS and Azure cloud services (GCP a plus).
  • Databases: Good knowledge of SQL and relational databases technologies/concepts; Experience working with data models and query tuning; Experience in Data warehousing solutions (Snowflake a plus) .
  • Integration: Experience in Integration Services (IICS, Tibco a plus).
  • Scripting: Working knowledge of scripting languages (Python, R a plus).
  • Source Control: Familiarity with Source Code Management Tools (GitHub a plus).
  • Visualization: Familiarity with Visualization Tools (PowerBI, Tableau a plus).
  • Project Management: Experience with Project Management Tools (JIRA, Confluence).
  • Service Management: Familiarity with Service Management Tools (ServiceNow a plus).

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering or equivalent, cloud certifications (AWS, Azure, Snowflake, IICS) are a plus.
• Languages: Excellent English communication and writing.

The salary range for this position is :

Final compensation will be determined based on demonstrated experience, skills, location, and other relevant factors. Employees may be eligible to participate in Company employee benefit programs.
