About Harper

36 million businesses in America need insurance. It's not optional. 77% are underinsured. 40% have no coverage at all.

The distribution system failed them: too slow, too opaque, too confusing. Over 90% of commercial insurance is still human-led. We're building the inverse — 90%+ AI-led and climbing. Not by patching legacy workflows. By building AI that makes humans more effective, improves the customer experience, and eliminates friction at every step.

We're adding roughly 1,000 customers per month. We've grown 100x since last year. We're hiring because we're not slowing down.

Harper is not a normal startup. We are building the next unicorn in commercial insurance — and we're doing it faster than anyone thought possible. The expectations here are high. The growth trajectory is higher than anything else in the market right now. If you want a front-row seat to what that looks like from the inside, this is it.

The Role

High-volume, high-intensity phone work: outbound and inbound, all day, every day.

You'll prospect and cold call business owners, handle inbound leads as they come in, and support intake by gathering the business information needed to get a quote moving. Either way, the job is the same: get on the phone, qualify fast, capture accurately, and move to the next one.

You're the first voice of Harper. The person who turns a cold contact or a curious inbound into a real opportunity for our sales team to close. There's no ambiguity about what this job is. You're on the phones. That's the work, and it's the whole work.

The best performers here don't stay SDRs. This is a deliberate first step, not a ceiling. At Harper, your growth is only limited by what you're willing to put in.

What You'll Do

  • Run outbound prospecting calls — dial cold leads, warm them up fast, and identify businesses that need coverage. Rejection is part of the rhythm. You don't let it slow you down.
  • Handle inbound intake calls — when business owners come to us, you're the first voice they hear. Learn their operation quickly, ask the right questions, and capture everything needed to get them a quote.
  • Qualify fast and accurately — figure out what a business does, what risks they carry, and whether we can help them. In minutes, not hours.
  • Capture information with precision — type while you talk. Your notes are complete, accurate, and fast. A clean intake means a faster quote and better coverage.
  • Hit daily volume and quality targets — you're measured on both. You don't trade accuracy for speed or speed for accuracy.
  • Hand off cleanly to Sales — you set the table. Sales closes. Your handoff quality directly affects conversion.

Who You Are

  • You've been in a high-volume phone role and you were good at it. Or you haven't, but everyone who knows you already knows you would be.
  • Cold calls don't rattle you. You've been hung up on and you called the next one.
  • You're energized by talking to people all day. Not worn down. Energized.
  • You can type while you talk — simultaneously, not sequentially.
  • Call 50 gets the same energy as call 1.
  • You want a real foot in the door at a top-tier, fast-growing company and you know you have to earn it.
  • You don't need hand-holding. You need a shot.
  • You understand that high standards and high growth go together — and you wouldn't have it any other way.

Requirements

  • Prior experience in a high-volume outbound or inbound phone role
  • Strong typing speed and multitasking ability — talk, listen, and log simultaneously
  • Professional, confident, and clear on the phone
  • Based in San Francisco, in-office, full-time

Nice to Have

  • Insurance, fintech, or financial services background
  • Bilingual+
  • High-volume SaaS outbound experience — think SDR or BDR roles at companies running Salesloft, Outreach, ZoomInfo, Apollo, or similar tools
  • Experience at a SaaS or AI company in an outbound or customer success-focused role

Compensation

  • Salary: $80,000 - $125,000 OTE based on experience, for top performers this will be even higher
  • Location: San Francisco, in-office
  • Schedule: Monday–Friday, 5 AM–7 PM. The hours are long. The people who thrive here wouldn’t have it any other way.

Benefits

  • Uber commuter benefits
  • Meals provided — breakfast, lunch, and dinner on us
  • Snacks, drinks, and coffee stocked daily
  • Free gym membership
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance

The Process

We run a tight, no-fluff interview process. We respect your time and we move fast -- because that's how we operate.

  • Initial fit and alignment call — we want to understand who you are, what drives you, and whether Harper is the right environment for you to do the best work of your life.
  • Super day — you'll come in for 3 to 4 hours. Case exercises, hands-on work with the team, and a real look at what it means to be part of something being built at this level. This is as much for you as it is for us.

We are not a typical startup. The people who join Harper understand that. The bar is high because the opportunity is exceptional.

Why Apply

This is one of the fastest paths into tech — and one of the most honest ones. You'll learn an entire industry, work at an AI company that's actually shipping product, and build a real career at a company on its way to becoming the defining name in commercial insurance.
